How did you get started in renewable energy?
I began working in energy over 20 years ago in Washington D.C. At the time, I was working on compliance documentation for projects seeking federal funding. The projects included a wide range of energy sources and technologies (e.g. coal, oil/gas, nuclear, carbon capture, biogas, geothermal, ocean thermal, wave, solar, wind). The variety was great and I was a sponge! For the past 10 years, I’ve focused on siting and permitting of transmission and renewable energy projects in the Mountain West region.
Which career accomplishment are you most proud of?
I have been fortunate to work on energy projects in five continents and am proud of the variety – but I am most proud of the projects that strongly consider and directly benefit the communities they are located in.
Are you a Colorado native?
I moved to Colorado about 15 years ago to enjoy the mountains. I love being outside! Favorites include cross-country skiing, ski touring, camping, backpacking, hiking, and eating/drinking with friends!
Any advice for someone looking to follow in your career footsteps?
Align your technical skillsets with your passion. This alignment may take a while, so as much as possible, grow your technical skillsets first. Those are always a worthy endeavor and can be applied in nearly any market you’re passionate about supporting.
